Join SPAC and Delta Wind Birds (DWB) for a day showcasing one of the best shorebird habitat sites on private land in the MS Delta. You will see first-hand where your on-the-ground conservation dollars are at work, creating habitat for migratory shorebirds on private lands near Sky Lake in Humphries County, MS.
The day will begin at 9 am with a detailed instruction on shorebird ID, including an indoor presentation and field practice. We will convene for a Delta BBQ lunch (included in registration fee) and finish in mid-late afternoon, thought participants may leave at their leisure. We expect we’ll be able to study at least 10 shorebird species, including some in juvenile plumage, and some adults transitioning from breeding to winter plumage. This site, a former catfish pond complex that has been re-purposed as a duck-hunting club, always provides interesting birding in general, not just for shorebirds. Depending on habitat conditions, we may also visit nearby Sky Lake.
A group will be carpooling from Strawberry Plains; contact Mitch for details and questions at firstname.lastname@example.org and register here: https://deltawindbirds.org/product/fall-shorebird-event/
